Year end book.
Today is 31st dec 2018. I have so much to talk about this year. 2018 has been the most excited and most enjoyable year of my life.I will call 2018 is "my year".
We submitted this idea to Texas instruments hackathon .But we got rejected . I had another idea and I gave it to another group of friends as one person couldn't submit more than one idea.Eventually it got selected and somehow they reached in quarterfinal . We were sad but it was okay. Then some misunderstanding happen between our friends group so some cold war was happening between we 4 and the latter 4(who reached quaterfinal) .
Then we submitted our project as a startup idea to SMART FIFTY contest which was a startup competition held in IIM calcutta and we got selected and our idea was among the top 3000 idea in India. We were pretty much excited to be in IIM calcutta ,and that was a fun day for us. We could not proceed further as we did not have a working model.
After that in jan-feb,2018 we submitted our idea to a paper submission competition held by FOSET(Forum of Science and Technology). We got selected and the other 4 friend group(lets call Aru's group) with whom we involved a cold war(actually I love them too) got selected too. So we were going to Serampore textile college to present our idea as a paper along with Aru's group.
At Serampore we presented our feasible idea that can be converted into a working model and Aru's group presented their idea which was copied from internet and somehow they stood 2nd among 9 team and got 1000 rupees . We were disappointed as well as sad and they were continuously teasing us . We had a wonderful idea which was rightly studied and the presentation was flawless but somehow we went overlooked. As we have a strong belief in our idea thus we moved on.
We started to look around to build our startup but due to studies we had to take the step back.
As 2018 was our placement season so we stopped thinking about the idea and started preparing for companies(aptitudes and English speaking skill) . I started to working on my coding skill and learnt python meanwhile . I love to code ,thus started doing competitive coding. And somehow competitive coding landed me in a decent job . As I am a mediocre student, 5 lpa compensation was great for me. And I got the job before placement started in our college. I was really happy but more happy to see the joy in my parents eyes. My girlfriend was happy too but she is not that expressive.
After few weeks one of our team member and my dearest friend Akash Roy submitted our idea in two more hackathon. We got selected in both hackathon .First one was Hack-a-bit(bit mesra hackathon) other was Sankalp Hackathon(which is in 19th Jan,Final) .
In October, we went to Ranchi to attend the 36 hour hackathon,Hack-a-bit. We were not prepared that much and there were no hope of wining.We just went to have a friend trip in Ranchi,Jharkhand.
We reached one day earlier , stayed at hotel and went to sight seeing . That day was awesome we visited 3 beautiful falls ,some local place and clicked tons of photos . Next day, after breakfast we went to Birla Institute of Technology,Mesra to attend the 36 hour hackathon. The college was really huge and beautiful campus they had. We put our luggage in a room and went to explore that area. When they called us for registration ,we saw that every college was top tier college except ours .They came from NIT,IIT,BIT etc. So we were terrified that maybe we could not perform like them . Before,hackathon started every one was discussing about their ideas and we were playing pubg mobile game and distributing stickers that they gave,between us.
At 10 A.M the hackathon started and suddenly we got serious.Next 36 hour we did whatever we can and slept only 3 hour in between . We didn't have any hope but out of 54 model we were in under 15 and gave a sudden presentation . Then,they called top 7 team and we were 4th . So,out of 450 ideas,54 models we stood 4th defeating many top tier colleges .It was an overwhelming incident that happened to us . After 2-3 years of trying and spending some big bucks ,our hard work finally pays off.
Then,we came back from BIT to Ranchi hotel and decided to celebrate with some booze.But ,as we were extremely exhausted, we decided to eat and sleep first and then in 3 A.M we will celebrate. But,the sleep was beautiful and we woke up in the morning sleeping 12 hours straight. Next,we had our breakfast then we drank some alcohol and danced . Akash vomited that day ,thus me and souvik had to clean his mess.Then ,we promised not to give Akash more than 60 ml drink. That day a maid came to clean our room and suspected our activity and said that "naya ladka hain zaroor beer pilake sula diya" means he is new,must be you two give him beer and make him sleep. After that, we took the bottles ,carried in a backpack and threw them away . We were tipsy when we hit the road but kept control to ourself.
That night we came back from Ranchi. This was the most memorable trip for me .It had excitement,joy,new experiences,competition,winning 4th position and most important of all friendship.
After some day we applied to an insurance hackathon and got selected ,gave presentation and despite the fact that we didn't had anything insurance related in our idea , we won the judges choice award worth 500$ USD from Capgemini.
So this was 2018 for me.The best year of my life. I had the most beautiful experiences throughout the year and I am thankful to the almighty for gifting me 365 beautiful days.
